Well hello there !

My name is Lucien, after spending some time on most hobby forums I recently went a little more "inactive" on the forums, because I decided to focus mainly on the scientific aspects of the hobby.
I still visit most forums every now and then though, so being invited over here made me decide to join of course

In the past I've kept nattereris, rhombeus and geryi, but do not have an aquarium anymore. I'm one of the few who is more interested in the specimen either dried, or preserved in formalin.
I use them to look for the scientific aspects that have only been vaguely described so far. For example the swimbladders - In his work "Le genre Serrasalmus du bas Tocantins (Bresil) et description de S.geryi", Géry mentioned the swimbladders of each species were different. There are only a few drawings of it, so I wanted to see for myself what they are in reality.

So instead of moderating some forums, I started my own website (www.piranha-info.eu) just because I feel that science does not always fit into a hobby forum.

There are not many species available over here in Holland, so if someone has a dead species he wants to get rid of, please let me know !

Allright mate, lokking good this forum !

My site is not really a forum though, I only included one to make interaction with some readers possible. So far I found that on some forums, Fury in perticular, science just gets ignored or even denied by people who take their own observations for granted, so I decided to go inactive on there and start my own site.
It allows me to focus on what interests me and by using references, I try to make it as reliable as possible. It saves me a lot of useless discussions with those who really don't care for scientific aspects on the forums

And yes I do like arachnids and snakes as well, though they are more like a hobby to me... while piranhas truly have become a passion I spend a whole of a lot more time into.
At the end of next week I hope to receive a 13" S.rhombeus specimen that arrived dead at the one who ordered it.
I'll take some samples of the scales for microphotos, and have arranged a maceration process by a scientist of the department Archezoölogy of the Royal University.
In that process the flesh will rot away in about a week time, leaving a complete skeleton I hope.

I will try to glue all lose bones back into position, using "Une nouvelle espece de Serrasalmus (Teleostei: Characidae: Serrasalminae), S.altispinis N. SP., decrite du rio Uatuma (Amazonas, Bresil) avec une description complementaire de S.rhombeus (Linnaeus, 1766) du plateau Guyanais" by A.Merckx, M.Jegu and G.M. dos Santos, as reference for the body proportions.
I hope to manage in reconstructing it, and from there have a look at how the organs are protected by skeleton parts...

It's my only way to converse with international people, for my Dutch is non-understandable to most, like French is non-understandable for me without using translators :P
